FIC Report (Abia State) – The Abia State Government has announced that its infrastructure and environmental renewal programmes are being strengthened through active support from the Federal Government, with 30 road contracts currently ongoing across the state. Officials say the pace of work will accelerate once the rainy season subsides.

Speaking ,the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, explained that in addition to the FG-backed road development, the Ministry of Works is also executing 54 direct labour projects. According to him, this cost-saving measure has freed up funds for other pressing needs across the state.

On environmental management, Kanu revealed that the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has deployed 2.7-tonne waste receptacles in Aba and Umuahia. Unlike the larger bins previously used, these smaller receptacles are designed to ease traffic flow on narrow city roads.

He further disclosed that ASEPA has embarked on a massive clean-up of major waterways and drainages, covering Afara, Golden Guinea, Modern Ceramics, and extending to Isialangwa.

Turning to governance, the Commissioner warned detractors who peddle deliberate falsehoods about government activities. He stressed that while the Otti administration remains open to constructive criticism, it will no longer condone deliberate misinformation aimed at misleading the public.

Prince Kanu emphasized that the Executive Council has resolved to invoke the full weight of the law against purveyors of false information about the government.
