The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Olusade Adesola, has assured the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) and Belema Aid Foundation, of Federal Government’s support and collaboration towards the actualization of their dream, of seeing every youth in the society a better person.
Mr. Adesola appreciated the World Assembly of Youth, being the umbrella body overseeing the affairs of Youth all over the world, promising that, he will brief the incoming Minister of the activities of the Assembly and her proposed 70th anniversary celebration, which will be held in Nigeria later in the year.
The Permanent Secretary made this known on Monday, when he received the two delegations from Belema Aid Foundation and the World Assembly of Youth, at his Conference Room, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
He informed the delegation that despite the crises and confusion amongst the membership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria over leadership tussle, the Government through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, is committed to socio-economic empowerment of the Youth, adding that, matters affecting youths are accorded supreme priority by the Government. To this end, the Permanent Secretary assured that the in-coming Minister would resolve every burning issues relating to the NYCN leadership crisis.
Speaking earlier, Mrs. Ediola Pashallari, Secretary General of the World Assembly of Youth, stated in her remarks that the WAY membership covers over 140 countries spread across continents including Nigeria. Since the WAY foundation was founded in 1949, the Assembly has been championing programmes and policies on population, drugs abuse, health, employment entrepreneurship, globalization, democracy, information and communication technologies, environment, youth participation in decision making processes, human development and leadership training.
The Programme Manager of Belema Aid Foundation, Mr Obinna Nwanneri, remarked that the foundation partners with WAY to enhance their activities which includes scholarship, youth empowerment, feeding programme, microfinance and attending to the entrepreneurship of youths across the nation.
In her welcome address, Dr. (Mrs.) Abdulai who is the Director of Network and Social Mobilization in the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, applauded the WAY foundation for putting smiles on the faces of vulnerable Nigerian Youths by empowering them and making lives meaningful in their fields of endeavour.
