Nigeria’s senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers have finished on top of Group A of the World Cup qualifiers after the first round of matches concluded in Angola on Sunday.
After a slow start that saw them lose the first game 79-71 to Cape Verde, D’Tigers showed character and resilience to beat Mali 72-70 and capped it up with a dominant performance against Uganda on Sunday, winning by 69-95 points.
The team has been praised and commended for showing the ‘never say die’ spirit and attitude of Nigeria inspite of the initial difficulties, and for doing the nation proud.
Nigeria finished tops ahead of Mali, Uganda and Cape Verde in this first of four windows fixed for the World Cup qualifiers by the International Basketball Federation(FIBA). The next window will be in June 2022 at a venue to be announced later.
