FIC Report (Benue State) – The Head of the Federal Information Centre (FIC), Makurdi, Mrs. Irene Iveren Onehi, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, led staff of the Centre on a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Benue State, Dr. Peter Egbodo, in his office at the State Secretariat, Makurdi.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Onehi congratulated Dr. Egbodo on his well-deserved appointment as Commissioner and expressed the Centre’s desire to strengthen collaboration with the Benue State Government in the dissemination of information on government policies, projects, and programmes.
She informed the Commissioner about the Midterm Report Presentation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration, recently hosted by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in Benue State. According to her, the report was part of efforts to gather citizens’ feedback on the performance of the Federal Government and to enhance accountability in governance.
In his response, Dr. Peter Egbodo warmly welcomed the Head and staff of FIC Makurdi, describing the visit as timely and important. He noted that both the Federal and State Governments, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), share the same goal of improving the welfare of Nigerians through effective service delivery.
He emphasized the need for stronger synergy between the Federal Ministry of Information and the Benue State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, particularly in promoting accurate and consistent messaging on government initiatives.
Dr. Egbodo revealed that Benue State will mark its 50th anniversary in 2026, adding that it will be an opportunity to reflect on the State’s achievements, challenges, and future direction. He said the celebration will involve collaboration between national and sub-national stakeholders to properly document and publicize Benue’s journey over the past five decades.
Addressing the challenges posed by social media and fake news, the Commissioner underscored the role of government-owned media organisations in ensuring balanced, factual, and responsible reportage, as well as advising the government on matters of public concern.
Dr. Egbodo also disclosed plans to pay a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation to further deepen strategic collaboration between the State and the Federal Ministry in information management and dissemination. Top on visit list was Veronica Azemba deputy Head of Center and Hassan Abdulkarim Head of Admin at the center.
