FIC Report (Edo State) – The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has commended the athletes from Edo who have been chosen to represent Nigeria at the upcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II Senior Athletics Championship in Accra, Ghana.

In a statement through his Media Officer, Mr. Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele highlighted that the selection of five Edo athletes underscores Governor Monday Okpebholo’s forward-thinking commitment to advancing sports development in the state.

“The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced its official team list for the championship, scheduled for August 18th and 19th, 2025, in Accra. Out of 26 athletes representing Nigeria, five are from Edo State — this is a commendable achievement,” he remarked.

He extended his Congratulations to Treasure Omotsivie (Women’s High Jump), Anita Enaruwa (Women’s 400m and 4x400m Relay), Chidera Ezeakor (Men’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m Relay), David Akhalu (Men’s 400m and 4x400m Relay), and Prestina Ochonogor (Women’s Long Jump), a finalist for the Paris Olympics, for their selection, describing them as “Proud Ambassadors of Edo State.”

Enabulele emphasized that their inclusion in the team is a direct result of Governor Okpebholo’s Strategic Initiatives to position Edo as Nigeria’s center for sporting excellence.

“With 20 events on the schedule, our athletes have a prime opportunity to win medals and elevate Edo and Nigeria’s reputation,” he stated, also expressing gratitude to AFN President Chief Tonobok Okowa for acknowledging Edo’s contributions to national sports teams.

The Selected athletes are scheduled to leave Lagos for Accra on Saturday in preparation for the Championship.
