FMINO Trains Information and Public Relations Officers in the South-West Region

FIC Report (Lagos State) – A three-day workshop on Effective Communication Skills, Information Management, and Public Relations was held from February 24th to 26th, 2025, at NTA Ibadan. Organized by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation (FMINO) in partnership with NTA Television College, Jos, the training aimed to enhance the skills of Information and Public Relations Officers in the South-West region.

The workshop was officially opened by the Zonal Director of NTA Ibadan, Mr. Babatunde Popoola.

The facilitators, who were experienced media professionals from NTA Television College, ensured that the sessions were interactive. Participants shared their experiences, discussed real-life case studies, and explored ways to combat misinformation, which has become a major challenge in the digital age.

One of the key speakers, Mrs. Banky, delivered a lecture on “Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication,” highlighting the importance of body language, tone, facial expressions, and clarity in conveying messages effectively. Another facilitator, Mr. Emma Okondo, focused on information management, emphasizing the need for government Information Officers to counter fake news and provide the public with accurate and timely updates.

Similarly, Mrs. Chinelo discussed the significance of media relations and networking, stressing that effective communication is crucial for maintaining public trust.

Participants left the workshop with a deeper understanding of their roles and the impact of communication in governance. They expressed their appreciation for the practical insights gained and pledged to apply their new knowledge in their respective duties.

The training reinforced the idea that communication goes beyond words—it is about connection, influence, and shaping public perception.
