The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, SAN alongside the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Philip Ndiomu, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Zakariya Tijjani Zannah, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Assembly in advancing Nigeria’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) sector.
In his address, Dr. Udeh expressed profound appreciation for the fatherly guidance and unwavering support of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He acknowledged the consistent cooperation of stakeholders, particularly the House Committee on Science and Technology, whose steadfast support necessitated the visit.
The Minister assured the Committee of his dedication to building a responsive STI sector capable of driving national development and positioning Nigeria on a path of sustainable growth. He emphasized the importance of fostering synergy between the Ministry and the National Assembly to diversify the economy and secure Nigeria’s place among respected nations globally.
The the Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Zakariya Tijjani Zannah welcomed the Minister’s visit and expressed optimism about the full implementation of the national STI policy. He highlighted the Committee’s legislative strides, including the sponsorship and passage of key bills designed to strengthen Nigeria’s STI framework. These bills, currently awaiting Presidential assent, include: Establishment of the National Research and Innovation Council and National Research and Innovation Fund, Creation of the National Agency for Technology Incubation. Amendment of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion Act and Establishment of the Projects Development Institute.
The Chairman assured the Honourable Minister of the Committee’s unwavering legislative support and reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the Ministry in delivering on its statutory mandates. He emphasized his commitment to leveraging Nigeria’s vast human and natural potentials to accelerate national development and position the country as a competitive global player.
The courtesy visit marks the beginning of a renewed partnership between the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology (FMIST) and the House Committee on Science and Technology as both institutions pledged to drive Nigeria’s STI aspirations, ensuring sustainable growth, innovation, and national competitiveness.
