FIC Report (Anambra State) – The Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, carried out a public safety sensitization exercise for drivers at various motor parks in Awka and its environs, an exercise aimed at advising the drivers at various motor parks against drunken driving and warning them about the dangers of drug use while driving.
Addressing the drivers at the Parks, the Anambra State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mrs Bridget Asekahuno, said that the Command had warned dealers to stop selling alcohol and drugs to drivers within motor parks, stressing that the permissible blood alcoholic concentration for drivers is 0.05 and announced that the command will commence routine road testing and prosecute offenders across Anambra State.
Speaking, the Chief Superintendent of Narcotics in charge of Media, Advocacy and Training at the Anambra State Command of the NDLEA, Mrs Priscilla Onyeoma explained that alcohol is classified as a socially acceptable drug, noting that, while dealers may not be arrested for selling alcohol, drivers are strongly advised not to take it while driving because of the risk involved.
In their response, representatives of transport operators in Awka, Mr Anagha Orji and Mr Alexander Chukwudozie, expressed gratitude for the sensitization, saying that their companies does not condone drinking and driving, they described the exercise as encouraging, as it would further and strengthen their commitment to good conduct on the roads.
