As part of the arrangements towards its upgrading to a full fledge university, the 58th Governing Council of the Federal School of Surveying (FSS), Oyo has approved its restructuring with the creation of Faculty of Geo-Informatics and that of Science.
The 58th meeting of its Governing Council chaired by the Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Samuel Adeniran Taiwo has mandated the school management to prepare a road plan for its upgrading to its status to that of a university for the attention of the Honourable Minister for Education.
The council acknowledges the commitment of the Muhammadu Buhari Administration towards the advancement of education in the country hence the directive of the Honourable Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola to the council to liaise with his Permanent Secretary for appropriate arrangements for its actualization.
The council also approves the review of the school master plan with the appointment of a 6-man committee in view of the fact that 250 hectares of land have been acquired for expansion and further development.
The council commends the commitment of the Rector of the School, Dr. Dupe Nihinlola Olayinka-Dosunmu and members of her management for recent improvements and upgrading of facilities in the campus.
The rector shortly before the council meeting conducted the Chairman and members of the governing council round the multi-million naira 1000 capacity lecture theatre that is more than 80 per cent completed, and the Administrative complex with over 40 office spaces also nearing completion.
The school offers ND, HND, PD, PPD, courses in surveying and geo-informatics, Cartography; Photogrammetry and Remote-Sensing; and Computer Science, among others as well as PGD GIS.
FSS, Oyo was established since 1908 as a Governmental Departmental Training Institution under the Colonial Survey Department, Lagos for training of technical staff. It was moved to Ibadan in 1926 and later Oyo town in 1934.
