FIC Report (Jigawa State) – The Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa state has unveiled new degree programmes in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Data Science and Analytics, as part of a sweeping academic reform aimed at repositioning the institution for global competitiveness.
The initiative was disclosed in a statement issued by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Abdullahi Yahaya Bello said the Vice Chancellor of University made the disclosure during an interactive session with staff members of the Institution.
According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, outlined plans to modernise the university’s curriculum in line with 21st century realities and regulatory standards of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
He stressed the need to revise and upgrade academic programmes to meet global benchmarks and respond to the digital transformation shaping modern pedagogy.
Part of the reform agenda includes the introduction of market-driven and technology-oriented courses such as Networking and Cloud Computing, Project Management, Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
Other proposed programmes are Geology, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Community Health, Science Education and Business Education, among others.
Prof. Gumel said the university’s Vision 2030 is to transform FUD into a nationally and globally competitive institution with cutting-edge academic offerings.
He noted that the goal is to produce graduates who are not only employable but also capable of creating jobs.
The Vice-Chancellor called on academic staff to embrace the new wave of reforms, adding that far-reaching changes would be pursued over the next five years to reposition the university.
Bello maintained that the institution possesses the manpower and institutional will to implement the reforms successfully.
He added that with competitive programmes, innovative research and strategic global partnerships, FUD is poised to strengthen its standing among top-ranking universities.
