FIC Report (Benue State) – The Office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State on Tuesday 4th 2025 bring to the attention of the general public the directives issued by His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, in his capacity as the Chief Security Officer of the State, concerning activities within court premises in Benue State.
It is on record that since December 6, 2024, court premises in the state have remained closed due to the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN). Consequently, His Excellency has directed that all individuals and groups refrain from conducting any activities within or around the court premises until further notice.
However, recognizing the time-sensitive nature of election petitions, the Governor has permitted only the Local Government Election Petition Tribunals to continue their proceedings in designated court halls. To ensure the safety and security of all tribunal members, legal representatives, petitioners, respondents, witnesses, and tribunal staff, adequate security measures have been put in place.
In the interest of maintaining peace and order, His Excellency has further directed that no form of protest, unauthorized gathering, or commercial activity—including hawking—be allowed in or around the court premises. Violators of this directive will face legal consequences.
His Excellency assures the people of Benue State that the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal will continue its proceedings without interference, in line with due process and the rule of law. He urges all citizens to remain calm and law-abiding as they await the tribunal’s decisions.
Since assuming office, His Excellency has remained committed to fostering a secure and peaceful Benue State. While security challenges persist, the administration continues to take proactive steps to enhance safety and protect lives and property.
The government appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders and reaffirms its unwavering dedication to upholding justice, security, and the rule of law in Benue State.
