Gov. Alia Charges Corps Members to Embrace Skills for Self-Reliance

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has urged Corps members deployed to the state to embrace skills acquisition as a key step toward self-reliance and national development.

The Governor made this call on Friday, 1st August 2025, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream 1 Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area.

Representing the Governor, the Acting Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Creativity, Dr. Philips Nongu, congratulated the Corps members on the successful completion of their academic journey. He described the service year as a significant symbol of patriotism and dedication to national growth.

Governor Alia encouraged the Corps members to integrate fully into camp life and take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which he said provides a solid foundation for economic independence and sustainability.

He further assured them of their safety throughout their service year, emphasizing the state government’s strong collaboration with security agencies to maintain a safe and secure environment.

In her remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, represented by the Camp Director, Mr. Edwin Ubganze, encouraged the Corps members to actively participate in all camp activities and entrepreneurial workshops, highlighting their value in preparing them for a productive and impactful service year.

The Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice Maurice Ikpambese, represented by Hon. Justice Kume Tertsea Aorga, administered the Oath of Allegiance to 1,000 Corps members.
