FIC Report (Edo State) – In a decisive move to revitalize Local Economic revitalization; Sustainable and Community development, Gov. Monday Okpebholo has ramped up efforts to reconstruct and modernize the historic Oba Market, aligning the Project with Nigeria’s Broader National Growth Objectives under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Governor’s recent inspection of the ongoing reconstruction works signals a renewed commitment to delivering on Campaign promises and transforming decades-old neglect into a catalyst for Local and National Economic Progress. The Project, which was halted by a devastating fire nearly ten years ago, is now set to become a vibrant, modern Marketplace that supports small businesses, creates jobs, and promotes inclusive growth.

During his visit, Governor Okpebholo was greeted with enthusiastic cheers from traders and residents, many of whom have long awaited the market’s revival. He emphasized that this initiative is a direct reflection of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on critical infrastructure development and grassroots empowerment. The agenda has unlocked vital resources for states to implement projects that directly impact the livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians.

“The reconstruction of Oba Market is more than just rebuilding a marketplace; it’s about restoring hope, creating opportunities, and fostering sustainable development,” the Governor stated. “This project embodies Nigeria’s vision of a resilient Economy, where our Communities are empowered and our people can thrive.”

The redesigned Oba Market is envisioned as a Modern Complex, featuring 450 Open stalls on the ground floor, with upper levels accommodating lock-up Shops for Electronics, Fashion, and other Trade Categories. Notably, the design includes essential safety and welfare facilities such as a mini fire station, sick bay, and creche—ensuring a safe and conducive environment for Traders and Investors.

Governor Okpebholo assured that the project would be completed ahead of schedule, with a target completion date set for June 2026. He pledged to hold Contractors accountable and ensure efficient use of resources, reinforcing transparency and good Governance.

The Project Manager, Mr. Aneru Izuagbe, expressed confidence that the remodeling would transform the market into a model for Nigerian markets—safe, functional, and commercially vibrant. “Our goal is to create a Marketplace that meets modern standards, supports small traders, and contributes to Edo’s Status as a Commercial hub,” he said.

This revitalization effort aligns with Nigeria’s National Goals Of Infrastructure Development, Economic diversification, and Job creation. It exemplifies how state-level projects can contribute to the federal government’s vision of a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria.

As the reconstruction approaches completion, the Oba Market’s rebirth symbolizes a broader movement toward rebuilding Nigeria’s Economic backbone—markets and small businesses—integral to the Nation’s growth story, catalyst for Socio-Economic progress and the realization of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
