FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Hajiya Salifat Sule, wife of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, has called for stiffer measures against perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to protect the victims and serve as a deterrent to others.
The governor’s wife stated this on in Lafia during a roadwork by stakeholders as part of activities to commemorate the 2025 16 Days of Activism against GBV.
The road walk, organised by the Nasarawa State Ministry of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services in collaboration with the Office of the wife of the governor, started from the ministry to the government house and was received by the governor.
Salifat said, Women are special beings created by God; as such, they should be handled with love, care, and compassion.
She noted with dismay the high level of violence against women and girls in society and advocated for punitive measures against anyone caught violating the rights of women and girls in the state.
She appreciated the governor for empowering women and protecting their rights and assured that her office would continue to create awareness on the effects of GBV in society.
The governor’s wife, therefore, called on all stakeholders to join the fight against GBV and speak against it publicly where necessary.
Also speaking, Hauwa Jugbo, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, called on victims of GBV and their family members to speak out to enable the appropriate authorities to take action to punish the perpetrators.
The commissioner has also commended the state governor for his proactiveness in empowering and catering for women and ensuring that victims of GBV are cared for and the perpetrators are punished.
Receiving the women, the governor commended the doggedness and resilience of women in championing the cause of peace and development and assured them of the state government’s readiness to protect their rights.
Sule promised to continue to empower women through appointments to strategic positions in his administration to enable them to contribute to the development of the state and country.
