FIC Report (Kano State) – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reunited 76 teenagers, who were detained for treasonable felony during the #EndBadGovernance protest, with their families. The children, arrested by police during the August 1st demonstration in Kano, endured three months of starvation and hardship in custody in Abuja.
Following their pardon by President Bola Tinubu, the governor facilitated their medical rehabilitation at Muhammadu Buhari Specialists Hospital and promised support for their reintegration. During a handover ceremony on Thursday, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, Governor Yusuf praised the President’s intervention while urging the teenagers to embrace responsibility and pursue their education.
Two of the teenagers were promised automatic employment with the state government—one upon completing university and the other after finishing an NCE program. The remaining children will be reinstated in schools, as directed by the Kano State Ministry of Education.
The ministry, through Commissioner Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, also announced a cash support of ₦50,000 for each teenager, provided by the Bafarawa Foundation.
In his remarks, the governor expressed regret over the destruction caused during the protest and cautioned against future unrest, urging parents to be more vigilant in their responsibilities. A representative of the parents, Nura Ahmad Muhammed, expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts and thanked all who supported the children’s release and rehabilitation.
