ANAMBRA (FIC Awka) – The Anambra State Government has said that the monthly allowances of Corp Members performing their National Youth Service in hard-to-reach areas of the State would soon be reviewed upward .
The State Governor, Willie Obiano, revealed this at the Umunya NYSC temporary orientation camp during the closing ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation exercise.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, said this increment is in compensation for the fact that they have been posted to areas with bad terrain and impassable road network. He added that his government had created an enabling environment for corps members to excel in their places of primary assignments.
He promised to provide necessary support for their community development initiative, noting that a reward system had been instituted to honour deserving corp members who excelled at the end of the service year.
He advised them to live up to the people’s expectations as agents of change in their respective host communities as he wished to offer them opportunities to participate in governance and the implementation of government programmes.
Gov. Obiano urged corps members to embrace various agricultural activities mapped out by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export in Youth Agriculture Initiative.
Mr. Kehinde Aremu who is the Coordinator, Anambra State NYSC, in his speech, assured the Governor that NYSC would support his administration to achieve its objectives through posting corps members to health institutions in inaccessible towns like some areas of Ogbaru Council Area.
