FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Governor Abdullahi Sule has inaugurated Barrister Labaran Shuaibu Magaji as the new Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State (SGNS).
Governor Sule inaugurated the new SGNS, at a colourful ceremony which held at the Government House in Lafia, the State Capital.
Until his appointment, Barrister Magaji, a seasoned legal practitioner, was the immediate past Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice.
The Governor said that as part of his commitment to refocus and rejig his administration, which resulted in the recent dissolution of the members of the state executive council, as well as the relieving of the former SSG of his position, it has also become necessary to bring in new hands that would bring new perspectives into the system in order to enhance the government’s capacity in the delivery of service for the progress and development of the State.
He added that, the office of the SSG is the engine room and cornerstone of all government activities, entailing that the occupant of the office possess appreciable understanding of the dynamics of governance, inter governmental relationships, and indelible techniques to engendering synergy between seamless operations of government.
“It is for this reason that the decision to appoint Barrister Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, PhD, was arrived at as the new Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State. As you are aware, Barrister Labaran Shuaibu Magaji is a celebrated legal luminary, a reputable technocrat with global experience and an unassuming politician. He served this state and Nigeria in various capacities. His contributions to our administration and the project Nasarawa are legendary. I am convinced that with his antecedents, loyalty, and proven performance of excellence, he will be able to competently serve this administration and the government of Nasarawa State as the SSG,” he stated.
As part of the ceremony, Governor Sule equally inaugurated Navy Commodore Yahaya Owuna (rtd) as the sole administrator for Udege Development Area, recently engulfed in communal crisis.
He took time to explain that Owuna would serve as a sole administrator for Udege in order for the retired military officer to bring his experience to bring stability to the area.
“The essence of us appointing a sole administrator for Udege is because of the crisis we are having in that area. That is why we looked for a retired Commodore to appoint. It is not the administrator of the Udege Development Area,” he clarified.
He disclosed that the sole administrator would be supported by four other members, as part of the efforts of the administration to restore peace in the crisis that affected Udege Mbeki, Odu and Mararaba Udege resulting into loss of lives and property.
“I need to state that as part of our efforts, we have decided to appoint a sole administrator who will also be supported by four other members pending the appointment of the administration of the Udege Development Area. We also believe that the presence of the administrator in this area would stem the tide of the crisis and bring lasting peace in Afo land and the Udege administrative area in general,” he said.
The Governor equally inaugurated the governing council of the College of Education Akwanga, following the expiration of the tenure of the erstwhile chairman and members.
While congratulating the appointees, he tasked them on the need for service delivery, adding that their appointments was timely, coming at a time that his administration is committed to massive transformation in the state.
This is just as Governor Sule relief all his political appointees of their appointments, starting from special advisers, senior special assistants, special assistants and personal assistants.
He congratulated the appointees for their various contributions to his administration, stressing that it has become necessary to relieve them of their appointments in order for the government to realign its political offices, particularly that 16 number commissioner-nominees have been sent to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for confirmation.
