Governor Abdullahi Sule Seeks Strong Partnership With Legal Community In The State

FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has restated his administration’s commitment to promoting justice, legal excellence, and deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing the legal profession as an essential pillar of democracy.

Governor Sule who expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the challenges in making time for the meeting, given his tight schedule. He described lawyers as an elite class of professionals whose role in the justice sector cannot be overstated.

“There are only two professions—lawyers and others,” the Governor joked, drawing laughter from the gathering.

He emphasized his admiration for the NBA’s role in upholding the rule of law, maintaining social order, and advising the government on critical matters.

In a remark, the leader of the delegation Barr. Ishaka Mudi Dikko, SAN, recounted his personal and professional relationship with Governor Sule, which dates back to his early days in legal practice.

He praised the Governor’s hands-on approach to mediation and industrial peace, citing an incident where Sule personally intervened in a commercial dispute involving Chinese nationals.

“That intervention shaped how I viewed your Excellency—as a leader committed to peaceful resolution, even in business disputes,” Dikko noted.

Also speaking, the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi, described the day as “auspicious” for the legal community in the state.

He applauded Governor Sule’s openness and consistent engagement with professionals, especially lawyers.

The Honourable Attorney General, who took to introduce the top members of the legal community present, emphasized the growing role of lawyers in governance and praised Governor Sule’s inclusive leadership.

In closing remark, the NBA Chairman, Lafia Branch, Barr. Akulo Denise Dauda thanked the Governor for his warmth and openness to the legal practitioners.

He commended the administration’s developmental strides and urged for government continuous support for the legal community particularly the ongoing efforts to establish a befitting “Bar Centre” in Lafia to provide for cross fertilization of ideas and socialization.

“You have our assurance that the NBA Lafia Branch remains a committed partner in your administration’s justice reforms,” Dauda said.

Reports that with the NBA’s support and the Governor’s openness to legal dialogue, stakeholders are optimistic about further strengthening of the rule of law and judicial independence in the state.

The high-level delegation of the NBA Lafia Branch, led by renowned legal luminary, Ishaka Mudi Dikko, SAN, to Government House in Lafia, was part of the NBA’s 2025 Law Week activities.
