FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State Government has launched the 2025 Integrated Immunisation Campaign aimed at protecting children from Measles, Rubella, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Polio, and other vaccine-preventable diseases. The initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the health and future of every child in the state.
The campaign was officially flagged off by the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Thursday, 17th October 2025, at the FSP Clinic, Makurdi. The Governor was represented by his Deputy, Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, mni.
Speaking during the event, Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s determination to eliminate preventable childhood diseases through sustained immunisation and robust healthcare initiatives.
“To ensure the smooth implementation of this round of the National Measles-Rubella Campaign, the State Government has released the required counterpart funds for the procurement of essential kits, management of Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI), and the deployment of additional vaccination teams,” the Governor stated.
He noted that measles and rubella can cause life-threatening complications such as blindness, heart defects, and congenital rubella syndrome, stressing the importance of vaccination in preventing avoidable deaths.
“Through this campaign, our goal is simple — to protect our children, reduce the spread of these diseases, and save lives,” he added.
Governor Alia assured parents and guardians that all vaccines provided are safe, free, and effective, urging full participation from families and communities across the state. He also commended health workers, partners, and volunteers for their dedication in ensuring no child is left behind.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche Ejeh, described measles as one of the leading causes of death among young children globally. He stressed that sustained vaccination and community cooperation are key to eradicating the disease.

The Executive Secretary, Benue State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs. Grace Ashi Wende, appreciated the contributions of international partners and local stakeholders, describing the campaign as “building a wall of immunity — a protective shield around our most vulnerable population.”
Earlier, the Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Council, Hon. Joseph Keffi, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Maxwell Andoor, commended the state government’s consistent prioritisation of child health and pledged the council’s full support for the campaign’s success.
Representatives of development partners — UNICEF’s Joy Maria Eke, NPHCDA’s Mr. Victor Olaniyi, and WHO’s Dr. Mohammed Abdulkareem — lauded Governor Alia’s leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting health interventions across Benue State.
In his goodwill message, HRH Chief Dominic Akpe, Ter Gwer, representing the traditional institution, applauded the government’s proactive approach and urged parents and community leaders to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated.
The 2025 Integrated Immunisation Campaign targets over 106 million children nationwide, including approximately 2.4 million children aged 9 months to 14 years in Benue State. The initiative aims to build community immunity, reduce disease outbreaks, and secure a healthier future for Nigeria’s children.
