FIC Report (Edo State) – Governor of Edo state, Mr Godwin Obaseki has set up an investigative committee to unravel the cause of the fire outbreak at the popular Oba Market in Benin City.
The Governor who visited the market with senior government officials to sympathies with the affected traders promised to find out the cause of the inferno.
The committee which is to submit its report within ten days are saddled with the responsibility of finding the cause of the disaster, identifying the victims and advising the government on measures to equitably rehabilitate them ( the victims).
Members of the committee are drawn from the Nigeria Police force, Oredo Local government Council, Federal fire service, State fire service and the Directorate of State Service (DSS). The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Yakubu Gowon is also a member of the committee.
The inferno which was said to have begun in the early hours of Monday, the 22nd of June, 2020, led to the loss of goods worth millions of Naira.
