FIC Report (Edo State) – Edo State Governor, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Sports in Afuze, Edo State.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, and made available to journalists in Benin City, the Governor described the establishment of the university as a historic achievement that will expand access to quality higher education and promote intellectual and athletic excellence.
“Today marks a significant victory for the people of Edo State,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “The creation of the Federal University of Sports is a clear demonstration of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to advancing education in Nigeria. This institution will not only provide academic opportunities for our youths but also serve as a driver of socio-economic growth in our state and the nation at large.”
The Governor highlighted the vital role education plays in shaping the future and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure the university’s smooth take-off and long-term success.
He also acknowledged the contributions of key stakeholders, including members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society organizations, whose efforts were instrumental in making the project a reality.
“This university is the fulfillment of a long-held dream for many generations of Edo indigenes,” he said. “It will serve as a hub for groundbreaking research, innovation, and the development of skilled graduates who will positively impact our society. We are confident that the Federal University of Sports will quickly establish itself as a center of academic and sporting excellence, attracting students and scholars from across Nigeria and beyond.”
Governor Okpebholo assured the people of Edo State that his administration will work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies to ensure the provision of necessary infrastructure and resources for the university’s smooth operation. He urged all citizens to support the institution and contribute to its success.
“We are truly grateful to President Tinubu for this invaluable gift to the people of Edo State,” he concluded. “This university will transform our educational landscape and create new opportunities for future generations.”
