The Federal Civil Service joins the Nation in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the United Kingdom.

On behalf of the Nigerian Civil Service, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, expresses heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the family of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, and the Government and people of Katsina State.

President Buhari’s legacy is firmly etched in the annals of Nigeria’s history as a statesman who led with distinction, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to national service. From his stewardship as Military Head of State (1984–1985), to his tenure as a democratically elected President (2015–2023), he remained a symbol of integrity and patriotic dedication.

His administration achieved notable milestones in public sector reform, particularly through the implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2017–2020 (FCSSIP-20) and its successor, the FCSSIP 2021–2025.

These efforts enhanced transparency, strengthened the anti-corruption framework, expanded social investment programmes, and accelerated infrastructure renewal across the country.

His enduring impact on the Civil Service, marked by the promotion of efficiency, accountability, and the digitilisation of government operations continues to drive administrative transformation.

The Nigerian Public Service solemnly reflects on the loss of a leader whose values and principles redefined governance. President Buhari’s belief in merit, order, and the rule of law, laid a foundation upon which current reforms stand.

As we honour his memory, we are comforted by the enduring influence of his ideals on our collective journey toward a more transparent, disciplined, and citizen-focused Civil Service.

We pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and for divine strength and comfort to his family, the Government, and the people of Nigeria at this moment of national mourning.

Signed
