FIC Report (Delta State) – In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and determination to aggressively address the challenge of food insecurity across the nation, the Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Senator Abubakar Kyari CON, yesterday 7th October 2025, distributed farm inputs and equipment to small-scale farmers in Delta State.

According to the Minister, one of the important goal of every nation is to attain food security. This he noted, is an international priority reflected in the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The Minister stressed that to address the underlying challenges impacting the attainment of Nigeria’s food security goals, the present administration is implementing numerous economic reforms to stimulate productive capacity, create jobs and reduce cost of living. He pointed out that emergency responses and targeted humanitarian actions have equally been taken to ameliorate food crisis in the country.

The Hon. Minister who was represented at the ceremony by Dr. Perpetual Iyare further noted that in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Federal Government declared a national state of emergency on ‘food security ‘ in July 2023, adding that the President Tinubu’s led administration has demonstrated total political will to transform the Agricultural Sector across the nation by prioritizing food security.

The Hon. Minister further stated that since assumption of office on 21st August 2023, the FMAFS had examined the areas that need change and what the Ministry needed to do to realign existing initiatives and programmes on course, to be in line with core mandate of FMAFS.

The Hon. Minister noted that the Ministry has rolled out many programmes and projects to address some of the challenges of farmers and make food available, accessible and affordable to all Nigerians.

He emphasized that FMAFS was committed to ensuring that all the Ministry’s sectoral programmes and initiatives were completely aligned, to achieve the national priority. He stated that both the Federal and State Governments are continually engaged towards addressing all issues affecting national food security. The Minister also reiterated the commitment of Federal Government in promoting and creating synergies with Non-governmental organisations and the private sector to enhance efforts aimed at ensuring food security, economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction.

The Hon. Minister noted that a foremost concern of FMAFS is the facilitation of agro-inputs and basic farm machinery to small-scale farmers whom he noted were constrained by the high market cost of essential farm inputs.

He stated that Federal Government considered the implementation of short term plans and support mechanism to make essential farm inputs more affordable and accessible to farmers through transparent and accountable process.

The inputs and equipment distributed to the various cooperative groups included; knapsack sprayers, motorized sprayers, cartons of organic fertilizers, cocoa fungicides and hammer mills.

The Minister disclosed that twelve states including Delta State benefited in the second phase of the nationwide distribution exercise as he called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to ensure improved food production across the nation.

He thanked the Delta State Government for aligning with the Federal Government Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at ensuring food security in the country.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator FMAFS, Mr Kazeem Abdulazeez noted that the distribution of the items to the various cooperative groups that registered with FMAFS in Delta State, was a concrete demonstration of the determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to reposition Agriculture by supporting small-scale farmers across the nation. The State Coordinator expressed profound appreciation to the Hon. Minister FMAFS, Senator Abubakar Kyari CON, for his commitment in ensuring that the items get to the real farmers. Mr. Abdulazeez described the items as strategic enablers that would help the farmers improve their production capacity. The State Coordinator who noted that twenty two cooperative groups registered with FMAFS in the State benefited in the distribution, called on them to make effective and efficient use of the items.

In his good will message on behalf of the State Government, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Olioko who commended Federal Government for the initiative, said Delta State had been steadfast in promoting the food security effort of the Federal Government, emphasizing that the initiative aligned with the M.O.R.E Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in the State. He noted that farmers remain the backbone of the Agric sector. Dr. Olioko tasked the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items.

Expressing appreciation on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Chris Awunor said they were very happy and thankful to Federal Government for the support, emphasizing that Federal Government and Delta State Government have been doing very well in supporting farmers. He gave the assurance that they would put the items to maximum use while promising that the impact of the Federal Government’s support would be noticeably felt in the abundance of food production next year. As he puts it; “You will see the best of us”, he concluded.

The highlight point of the ceremony was the presentation of the items to the various cooperative groups with all the beneficiaries joyfully expressing appreciation to the Federal Government.
