Home Grown School Feeding Programme To Continue in Household of Pupils

Inspection visit by the representative of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Alhaji Jalal Arabi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, to the National Home Grown School Programme warehouse for the Take-Home Rations for Households in Idu Industrial Estate, Abuja, on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq will commence the distribution food items to the household of beneficiaries of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Jalal Arabi who represented the Minister at the inspection of the warehouse said’’ President Mohammadu Buhari had pledged during one of his address to the nation to continue the home grown school feeding programme as one of the palliatives for the society despite the lockdown’’.

Continuing, he said’,’ NHGSFP will be replicated in all the States of the Federation where the programme is on-going and the only difference is, rather than going to the schools, we will go to the various households to make sure that the food items are delivered to those pupils that should have benefited if the schools had been opened’’.

According to the Permanent Secretary, there is a data for the existing school register in the LGAs where the schools are domiciled, which is the primary source of data used by the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme. As a second level of verification, the door to door voucher distribution process will be used, this is currently going on in Abuja.

The take home ration is made up of 5kg bag of rice, 5kg bag of beans, 500ml Vegetable oil, 750ml palm oil, 500mg salt, 15pcs of eggs,140gm tomato paste, these are all reviewed by nutrition experts and valued at N4,200.

The Ministry is also considering children not enrolled in the programme, through engaging partners and other agencies to explore options for those children not currently in the programme.

Present at the inspection were the Directors of the Ministry, the Programme Officer for FCT Mrs. Victoria Aleogena and other officers of NHGSFP.
