The Motion for the need to save wildlife, plants species and improve conservation and tourism potential was moved at the House of Representatives plenary today Tuesday March, 3, 2020.

The Mover of the Motion, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha said the Law of the Federation, 2004 provides for the conservation, management of Nigeria wildlife and protection of some endangered species that are facing extinction as a result of exploitation.

The Hon. Said there has been large scale destruction and mismanagement of Ecosystem and Ecological disaster which has led to acute loss of soil fertility and extinction of countless species, therefore preservation of our ecosystem and effective Management will attract tourism and it will in turn generate revenue for the Country.

The House is aware of the fact that every March 3 is always set aside to mark ‘World Wild Life Day’ to draw attention to urgent need to save endangered species and this year theme is tagged “Sustaining all life on earth”.

The House therefore urged Federal Ministry of Environment and its Agencies to conduct an assessment of protected areas across the Country and prepare short and long term plan to improve the sector.
