The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has sympathised with victims of the Katsina and Zamfara States market fire.
This was contained in a statement issued by the the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bashir Nura Alkali.
“The fire which razed dozens of shops and destroyed valuables worth millions of Naira in the two popular markets is unfortunate and I pray that such will never occur. I also pray that Allah will strengthen the victims over their losses”.
Farouq assured that the Federal government and the State governments will ascertain the losses and provide assistance to ameliorate the suffering of the victims.
The Minister commended the State Governors of the two States for their prompt visits to the scene of the disaster to sympathize with the victims.
She equally appreciated the efforts of the firefighters and security agencies that assisted to control the fire.
The Minister re-emphasised the need for market authorities and shop owners to put in place preventive measures against fire disasters in markets across the country.
