Humanitarian Ministry Flags Off Medical Outreach For Vulnerable Persons - Dr Sununu

The Honourable Minister of State, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu said that the Ministry has launched a medical outreach for vulnerable persons in Jos, Plateau State.

Dr Sununu made this known when the delegation of the Defence and Police officer’s wives Association (DEFOWA) led by the President, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa, paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday 16th September, 2025 in Abuja.

He said the exercise which was flagged off by the Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, will benefit about 50,000 vulnerable Nigerians across the Country.

He encouraged the families of both Military and Para Military personnel to avail themselves for the exercise.

Dr Sununu also mentioned areas the Association can collaborate with the Ministry such as the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) under the National Social Investment Programme Agency. “This will empower about 21,000 small holder farmers with N300,000 each during the forthcoming dry season to mitigate the effects food scarcity in the wet season farming,” he said.

Other areas include Grant for Vulnerable Groups (GVG) as well as the durable solution for the Internally Displaced Persons, developed by the Ministry in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons and NALDA.

The Minister commended the Military and Para- Military Agencies for improving peace and security in the country. “Many military and security agents have paid the supreme price by sacrificing their lives to secure the country”. A minute silence was observed in honour of the falling heroes.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mrs Oghogho G. Musa, said they were in the Ministry to present the ongoing initiatives of the association and seek for collaboration in area of Humanitarian and Empowerment for families of Military and Para Military personnel.

Mrs Musa said the association is committed to the welfare of military and para Military families.

She stated that the the association is currently working on the establishment of a Sewing Hub to train and empower women with tailoring skills that guarantee sustainable livelihood. She then solicited the support of the Ministry towards the provision of sewing machines and equipment.

The President of DEPOWA commended the Ministry for the significant role in providing Humanitarian assistance to vulnerable persons across the country and impacting lives of many Nigerians.

In attendance were the Directors of the Ministry and members of the delegation of DEPOWA.
