In compliance with the directives of the Head of Civil Service of The Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, that Thursdays of every week should be dedicated as Performance Management System Day “PMS DAY” in the Federal Civil Service, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation today held its maiden edition of the exercise.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mr. Abel O. Enitan, said that the Ministry has kick started the PMS DAY which is aimed at monitoring PMS activities within the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to improve service delivery and enhance productivity of work. He said that with PMS, some challenges on productivity will be eliminated.
Enitan referred to PMS as an all-purpose drug that can cure all ailments. He said “The tempo must be sustained, we must get it right and perfectly done. We are one of the MDAs that have complied. It is good that we have started implementing the PMS and we will continue to improve on the system until we get it right. We have to cascade it to our Agencies too”.
The Permanent Secretary commended all staff for complying with the directive of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
Earlier, the Director, Human Resource Management Department, Mr. Tokunbo Rufai, who was the Head of the Monitoring Team constituted by the Permanent Secretary to monitor the level of compliance of PMS DAY in the Ministry emphasized that PMS and Enterprise Content Management (ECM) have come to stay in the Federal Civil Service. He said that PMS is a tool for evaluation of staff promotion, training and career development generally.
According to Mr. Rufai, PMS will be used to evaluate the 2024 promotion examination in the Ministry. “There will be training on PMS and Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and every staff is expected to apply the knowledge acquired to their jobs” he added.
The Director, Planning Research and Statistics (PRS), Mrs. Patience Oyekunle, who is also a member of the Monitoring Team, said that PMS will be used for tracking job description of officers and performance of Ministries. She also stated that PMS has replaced the Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER).
The Monitoring Team visited all the Departments of the Ministry to ensure compliance on PMS Day and the Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, Rhoda Ishaku Iliya and members of the internal press crew provided media coverage of the exercise.
