FIC Report (Anambra State) – The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has charged candidates of all political parties and their followers to embrace peace before, during and after the election in Anambra state.
Egbetokun, gave the charge yesterday in Awka, after he witnessed the signing of a Peace Accord among the flag bearers of political parties participating in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
The event which was held at the International Conference Centre, Awka, was organized by National Peace Committee (NPC) and attended by all the political leaders, security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organizations, and traditional rulers.
The IGP emphasized the importance of political tolerance and respect for democratic values, urging all candidates and their supporters to commit genuinely to peace before, during, and after the election.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to provide adequate security for the election, stressing that the police would remain neutral and professional in the discharge of their duties and further commended the Anambra state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu for his proactive security engagements and continuous advocacy for peaceful participation across the state.
The governorship candidates, on their part, pledged to abide by the provisions of the peace accord, promising to caution their supporters and campaign teams against acts capable of disrupting the peace of the state or undermining the credibility of the election.
