FIC Report (Abia State) – Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has called on the Church to lead out in the quest for new spiritual birth and prosperity in Abia State.
Governor Ikpeazu gave this charge while speaking at the 2nd Session of the 17th Synod of Anglican Diocese of Aba held at the St. Phillip’s Church, Eziukwu Aba with the Theme “Occupy Until I Come”.
He said that Abia State is in dire need of spiritual rebirth which can only be achieved through prayers and a shift from idolatry.
According to him, the Theme of the Synod is apt as it is a call to duty and responsibility for everyone.
Dr. Ikpeazu recalled how bad roads in Aba such as Eziukwu, Osusu, Omuma and others were before he came on board in 2015 and expressed joy that he has fixed most of those roads including constructing the first ever Flyover in Osisioma while assuring that other ongoing projects would be completed before he leaves office in 2023.
The Governor who commended the Anglican Bishop of Aba, The Rt. Rev Christian Ugwuzor for his sustained support to his administration, appreciated Men of God in the State saying that the success his administration has recorded so far is credited to the support from the prayers of the Church.
Welcoming the Governor, the Anglican Bishop of Aba, the Rt. Rev. Christian Ugwuzor lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for completing the first Abia Flyover which has improved the aesthetics of the Osisioma junction as well as aided free flow of traffic in the area in addition to his infrastructural developments in Abia State especially the economic nerve centre, Aba.
Earlier in a Sermon, the Bishop of Arochukwu/Ohafia Diocese, Rt. Rev. Johnson Onuoha appealed to all believers to submit fully to the Lordship of Jesus Christ who charged them to occupy until he returns. According to him, God demands faithfulness and honesty by all adding that they should avoid immorality, dishonest gains among others. He called on Leaders at all levels to utilize the authority given to them by God saying that how they make use of the opportunity of leadership is very important.
In a related development Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has also commended the Men’s Ministries of Assemblies of God Church, Umungasi Aba off Aba Owerri road for replicating the cement pavement technology introduced by his government in constructing the road leading to their church.
Governor Ikpeazu was speaking earlier today while commissioning the road as part of ceremonies to celebrate the 2022 Men’s Day of the church.
He said he would offset the outstanding balance of the cost of constructing the rigid pavement road and assured that he would asphalt the road as well as provide the entrance gate the church requested for.
The Governor challenged other churches and other organizations to take a cue from what this church has done.
He described the Theme of their programme “Stand In The Gap” as apt, saying that government needs more people and groups that would stand in the gap to bring about development of the State. According to him, many of the roads he has fixed are federal government owned roads, but he fixed them in order to uplift the lives of the people. He said God’s hands is on his administration, hence under him, Abia has witnessed peace and security and requested for continuous prayers of the church and expressed confidence that Abia’s tomorrow would be better than today.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works, Barr. Bob Ogu lauded the church for building the road with rigid pavement technology and informed that Governor Ikpeazu has fixed 80% of the roads in Aba.
He assured that Governor Ikpeazu would not stop delivering projects till 29th May 2023.
Earlier, the General Secretary of the Men’s Ministries of the Church, Bro. Chimaobi Umechuruba thanked Governor Ikpeazu for coming to commission their road.
He informed that the National Men’s Day Celebration offers them opportunity to work for God and said they have a challenge of a modern entrance gate into their church.
Highlight of the event was prayers made for the Governor and Abia State government while the event attracted the presence of the Member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency at National Assembly, Chief Chimaobi Ebisike, Member representing Aba North at the State House of Assembly,Hon Uzodike Aaron , Members of the State House of Assembly, Honorable Commissioners, among other Dignitaries.
