The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has offered to assist the Federal Government in the implementation and eventual realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.

This was disclosed by the IMF Mission Chief and Senior Resident Representative for Nigeria African Department, Amine Mati, during a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire in Abuja recently.

Mati said that the purpose of his visit is to actually find out the financing needs of the Federal Government to achieve the SDGs, as well as to offer assistance to meet up the challenge.

He said IMF will send a team of experts in January next year, to work with the Office and outline the costing and technical capacity requirements needed for the attainment of SDGs in the country, with a view to come up with the necessary framework to address the identified gaps.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who was represented by the Secretary of Program (SOP), D. M. Dauda responded by thanking IMF for the kind gesture and expressed Federal Government’s readiness to work and co-operate with IMF to successfully attain the SDGs.

The SSAP said the Office will discuss further on the offer and as soon as possible, write a letter to the IMF Mission Chief to intimate him on areas needing attention and possible intervention by it (the IMF).
