Imo Police Boss Charges Newly Promoted Officers On Discipline And Accountability

FIC Report (Imo State) – The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has charged newly promoted officers of the Nigeria Police Force serving in the State to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The Police Commissioner gave the charge while decorating four hundred and sixty-two (462) newly promoted Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) during the Command’s Conference held at the State Command Headquarters, Owerri.

According to an official statement, the ceremony marked a significant milestone for the officers, who were recently elevated from the rank of Inspectors. CP Bosso reminded them that promotion comes with increased responsibility, urging them to lead by example through exemplary conduct, integrity, and dedicated service to the public.

He reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for misconduct and unprofessional behaviour, warning officers against extortion, harassment, abuse of office, and any form of high-handedness in their interactions with members of the public.

Addressing Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Team Commanders, and Heads of Departments, the Commissioner emphasized the need for effective supervision and strict adherence to operational guidelines, stressing that supervisory officers would be held accountable for lapses under their command.

The statement disclosed that the directive followed the recent dismissal of three personnel found guilty of gross misconduct after thorough investigations and orderly room trials, underscoring the Command’s resolve to enforce discipline without fear or favour.

CP Bosso further announced plans to conduct unscheduled visits to police cells, checkpoints, and divisions across the State to ensure compliance with professional standards. He also cautioned officers against violations of human rights, including unlawful detention, arrest by proxy, and interference in civil matters.

The Imo State Police Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights, while sustaining the fight against crime and criminality across the State.
