In Ibadan, Wike Canvases Support For Tinubu

FIC Report (Oyo State) – The Hon. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has urged the people of Oyo State to uphold their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his efforts to turn around the country.

Mr. Wike, who, on Wednesday 5th of February, 2025, led other top members of the opposition party, the People Democratic Party, PDP, to Ibadan on a condolence visit to the Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, maintained that President Tinubu has been doing the right things to take Nigeria to the promised land.

Among the delegation of political leaders were two former Governors of the G-5 Forum, Senators, and a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has, over the past week, had lost one of his elder brothers.

Wike and his team arrived at Makinde’s Ikolaba residence in the company of former Governors of Abia and Benue States, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and Pastor Samuel Ortom. He expressed condolences on behalf of the group, emphasizing that “whatever affects Makinde also affects the G-5 Governors.”

The delegation also included Senators Philip Aduda, Mao Ohuabunwa, Olaka Nwogu, and Sandy Onor, as well as former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche.

In the same vein, a separate delegation led by former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, visited Makinde. The team included former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Makinde and Member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye.

Speaking during the visit, Wike said: “We have come today with my brothers, former Governors of Benue and Abia States, former Deputy Speaker, House of Reps, Distinguished Senators, and one of our illustrious sons from the United States, to pay a condolence visit to our friend and brother, the Governor of Oyo State.

“As a member of the G-5 Forum, we stand for fairness, equity, and justice in this country. The loss of his elder brother, who was also our senior brother, is also a loss to us. What affects him affects all of us.

“Seyi is someone you would want to relate with, and the death of his elder brother has touched us all because we know how close they were. It is a personal loss for us, and we felt it necessary to come and commiserate with him.

“At a time like this, true friends stand by you, and we believe that, by the special grace of God, his elder brother will rest in the bosom of the Lord. We pray that God will give the Governor and his family the strength to bear the loss.”

On the state of the nation, Wike expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, urging Nigerians to be patient with ongoing policies.

“If we want a remedy for the challenges facing the country, we must exercise patience. The policies being implemented may have short-term effects, but they will ultimately yield positive results. There is no need to panic because Mr. President means well for the country, and Nigerians should expect better days ahead,” Wike said.

Similarly, Chief Olabode George, who led a delegation of PDP chieftains from Lagos to Ibadan, offered condolences to Governor Makinde.

“We thank God for the life of the deceased. No one knows the time, and that is why we must always be grateful for each day. Our prayer is that the angels of heaven accept him into eternal rest.

“Seyi, as the younger brother, still has significant responsibilities, both in his family and to the people of Oyo State. That is why we deemed it necessary to visit him and offer our support.”

In his response, Governor Makinde appreciated the delegations for their thoughtfulness and support during this period of mourning.
