The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji has said that Science and Technology are not just tools of progress but essential pillars of global peace, accountability and security and Nigeria is proud to be committed signatory to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Nnaji disclosed this when the Executive Secretary Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO ) Dr. Robert Flyod paid him a courtesy visit in his Office today.

He further said that the nation is eager to exploit new frontiers of collaborations, advancing our domestic capacity as well as shared global mission of the treaty in order to improve security in the country.

The Minister also said that the Ministry stands at the forefront of Nigerian future, leveraging on Science, Technology and Innovation to shape a knowledge driven- economy and elevate our national development agenda for improved budgetary in the Nation.

Uche pointed out that the Ministry is building a future anchored in data driven policies, indigenous innovation and emerging technologies through seismic monitoring stations, regional data hubs and networks that will enhance the nations CTBT verification eco-system.

In his words, the Minister said that ‘’Here at Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Innovation is more than invention- It is a mindset, one that empowers us to reimagine systems, rethinks strategies, and refocus on our priorities’’.

Nnaji commended the Executive Secretary CTBTO and his team and said that their visit serves as a catalyst for deeper technical engagement and enduring partnership with Nigeria’s scientific ecosystem.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Organization (CTBTO) Dr. Robert Flyod said that CTBTO is an International Organization that was established to oversee the implementation of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and their goal is to ban all nuclear test explosions in Africa and the world.

He added that the organization facilitates collaboration among member states on issues related to nuclear testing and verification and Nigerian is one of them.
