The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire has stated that the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) which was designed in 2022 serves as a planning and delivery tool to finance sustainable development at the national and sub-national level and enable policy makers to increase investments in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Princess Adefulire stated this in her opening statement at the high level dialogue on SDGs Financing in Nigeria, tagged “Closing the Gender Gap: Financing Solutions For SDG-5, held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 in Abuja.

She explained that “the implementation of INFF for sustainable development in Nigeria will enable an integrated approach for leveraging the diverse opportunities to mobilize resources required to finance the SDGs in Nigeria”.

The SSAP-SDGs noted that the dialogue was organized to reinforce stakeholders’ commitment to work closely together to achieve the SDG 5 in particular and the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development goals in general. According to her “we need the expertise and resources of the public and private sectors, UN Development System, development partners and donor community, the academia, civil society and concerned citizens in support of the SDGs.”

Earlier, the UN women Country Representative to Nigeria Ms Beatrice Eyong in her address reiterated the need for adequate funding to achieve SDG-5, she disclosed that UN has approached the Federal Ministry of Budget to get better financing. She noted that adequate funding will empower women since SDG 5 is central to other SDGs.

Other speakers at the high level dialogue were of the view that there is need for gender responsive budgeting and well financed commitment from both the public and private sector to achieve SDG 5, believing strongly that achieving SDG 5 will end all forms of discrimination against women and girls, eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, eliminate harmful practices, ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life, among others, stressing that though funding is important for achieving SDG 5, it is imperative that we address systemic barriers that hinder women’s participation in decision making process at all levels.

Participants were drawn from the OSSAP-SDGs, United Nations, Federal Ministry of Budget, Donor Agencies and other partners.
