Kano State Government Partners with Islamic Scholars to Promote Public Awareness on Policies

FIC Report (Kano State) – The Kano State Government has sought the support of Islamic scholars (Ulama) to enhance public understanding of its policies and programmes. This appeal was made by Sani Abba Yola, Director of Special Duties at the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, during a meeting with members of the Association of Chief Imams affiliated with the Kwankwasiyya movement in his office.

Yola underscored the vital role of Imams in disseminating accurate information to the public, particularly through their Friday sermons. He urged the clerics to seek clarification on government policies before addressing related issues and encouraged their constructive feedback on initiatives that benefit the state’s populace.

The Director emphasized the need for a collaborative relationship between the government and Islamic scholars to ensure the successful formulation and implementation of policies that align with public interest. To support this, Yola disclosed plans to organize a sensitization workshop for Islamic scholars. The workshop will focus on understanding government policies, programmes, and effective public enlightenment strategies.

In response, Sheikh Gwani Sani Tilo, Chairman of the Association of Chief Imams supporting the Kwankwasiyya movement, expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Ministry for recognizing their contributions, particularly during the recent elections. Sheikh Tilo also acknowledged the prompt payment of monthly allowances to Imams while appealing for an increase in light of prevailing economic challenges.

He assured the government of their continued prayers and support for its efforts to deliver on its promises to the people of Kano State. The visit highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the government and the Ulama to foster mutual understanding and societal progress.
