FIC Report (Kano State) – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has vowed to address the devastating gully erosion in Bulbula-Gayawa, Ungoggo Local Government Area, which has plagued the community for decades. During a visit to the site, Governor Yusuf emphasized the urgent need for action to protect lives and properties. The erosion has claimed lives, inflicted hardship, and enabled criminal activities, making it a heartbreaking situation.
The governor’s administration is committed to tackling the erosion challenges through the Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project, in partnership with the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria. The project aims to address land degradation, environmental risks, and climate change impacts throughout the state.
Governor Yusuf assured the community that their voices have been heard and that his administration will work tirelessly to restore safety, security, and prosperity to Bulbula-Gayawa and surrounding areas. The Village Head of Zango, Malam Hamza Jibrin Nuhu, appreciated the governor’s concern and prayed for his success in developing Kano.
This partnership with the World Bank and the Federal Government is part of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), aimed at reducing vulnerability to soil erosion in targeted sub-watersheds.
