Keyamo Reaffirms Federal Government’s Commitment To A Safe, Efficient And Globally Competitive Aviation Sector

Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to building a safe, efficient, and globally competitive aviation industry in line with the Presidential Priorities and Ministerial Deliverables for 2025.

Keyamo made this known on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, during the Quarterly Stakeholders’ Engagement on Presidential Priorities and Ministerial Deliverables, held at the Bolingo Xperia Hotel and Towers, Abuja. The engagement had the theme: “Leveraging Public Feedback to Drive Excellence in Aviation Services.”

Keyamo noted that the forum serves as a strategic platform for reviewing progress, exchanging ideas, and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to advance the aviation sector. He emphasized that the aviation industry remains central to national economic development, job creation, and regional integration under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Highlighting the Ministry’s Five-Point Agenda, the Minister outlined the following priority areas:

  1. Strict adherence to safety regulations and continuous improvement of Nigeria’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) rating.
  2. Support for the growth and sustainability of local airlines in line with global best practices.
  3. Revitalization of aviation infrastructure, including airports and air traffic management systems.
  4. Human capacity development through targeted training and professional development programmes.
  5. Enhanced revenue generation through innovative initiatives and strategic partnerships.

Keyamo disclosed that progress is already evident, noting strengthened collaboration with leading aircraft manufacturers on leasing arrangements to support domestic airlines. He added that the Ministry has established a clear strategic direction for all aviation agencies, aligned with national development goals.

He further reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to monitoring progress, optimizing resource utilization, and reinforcing public confidence in the aviation system.

“Today’s engagement offers an opportunity for open dialogue and alignment of efforts to build a safe, efficient, and globally competitive aviation sector,” he said, expressing optimism that the discussions would yield actionable strategies for sectoral growth in 2025 and beyond.

In his opening remarks on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of the quarterly engagement as a platform for agencies to present achievements, challenges, and future plans. He noted that the initiative promotes transparency, accountability, and collaboration across the aviation ecosystem.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Head of the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman, represented by the Aviation Sector Manager, Dr. Hendrick Odige, commended the Minister and heads of aviation agencies for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to safety. She reaffirmed the Presidency’s support for ongoing reforms targeted at improving operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Presentations by the various aviation agencies highlighted significant achievements, including improved airport infrastructure, enhanced staff training, strengthened safety and security systems, improved inter-agency collaboration, and advancements in Performance-Based Navigation (PBN). The agencies collectively pledged continued adherence to ICAO standards and best practices to achieve a safer and more efficient aviation sector.

The engagement brought together a wide range of aviation stakeholders, including representatives of the Association of Pilots, Airline Agents, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other industry professionals.
