FIC Report (Kwara State) – The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to revamp and adequately equip all existing technical and vocational colleges across the state.
The appeal was made by the Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, during a plenary session of the house on Tuesday.
While presenting the House’s resolution on a Motion on Notice titled “The Need to Promote and Encourage Technical Education in Kwara State”, sponsored by Mallam Mohammed Baba Salihu, the member representing Okuta/Yashikira Constituency, Danladi-Salihu called on the state government to prioritize industry partnerships that will offer students practical training opportunities.
The Speaker further appealed to Governor Abdulrazaq to establish a Board of Technical and Vocational Education within the Ministry of Education.
The proposed board would be responsible for implementing policies of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) concerning technical and vocational training in Kwara.
Debating the motion, Salihu, who sponsored the bill, highlighted that the current state of technical colleges has impacted the schools’ efficiency and led to wastage of human and material resources.
He noted that Kwara’s technical colleges in Patigi, Erin-Ile, Esie-Iludun, and Ilorin have a legacy of producing skilled professionals in engineering fields who continue to excel.
Other lawmakers who spoke in support of the motion emphasized that investment in technical education would equip individuals with valuable skills, creating productive citizens and fostering economic growth and development in Kwara State and Nation at large.
