The Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Basheer Lado, on Tuesday presented the names of presidential nominees for appointment as Managing Director and Executive Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions for screening and confirmation.

The nominees forwarded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are:

Dr. Thompson Oludare Sunday– Managing Director

Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata – Executive Director

Senator Lado, while formally presenting the nominees to the Committee, stated that their selection underscores the President’s commitment to reforming and repositioning the financial sector through credible and experienced leadership.

“These nominations are based on proven competence, deep sectoral experience, and a shared vision with the President to promote financial stability, protect depositors, and strengthen the public’s trust in the banking system,” Senator Lado said.

The Senate Committee Chairman , Senator Tokunbo Abiru appreciated the Special Adviser to the president on senate matters for his commitment to facilitating the relationship between the President and the Senate, pledging fairness in the screening of the nominees in line with legislative procedures and make its recommendations to the Senate for confirmation.

The NDIC, a critical institution in Nigeria’s financial regulatory architecture, provides deposit insurance and ensures the soundness of the banking system. The confirmation of new leadership is seen as a step toward consolidating reforms in the financial services sector.
