Lady, Oluremi Tinubu Empowers 500 Women In Oyo State

FIC Report (Oyo State) – Chief (Mrs.) Oluremi Tinubu, the Nigerian first lady, was in Ibadan, Friday August 22nd, 2025, to empower 500 women across the 33 local government of Oyo State.

The Renewed Hope Initiative’s empowerment programme in Ibadan was organized in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to President on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The ‎Beneficiaries of the empowerment programme Initiative were giving deep-chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines to support them in starting or growing their existing business.

‎Speaking during the event, which was held at Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was represented by wife of Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, said that, having recognised critical role that women played in nation-building, the programme was aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Agenda, which prioritised inclusivity, economic growth, and sustainable development for all Nigerians, particularly women’s economic empowerment.

‎Mrs. Tinubu stated that women empowerment was central to achieving all the SDGs, especially SDG-5 on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, as well as article SDG-8 on decent work and economic growth, “which are all relevant to what we gather here for today”.

‎“The items being distributed today are to equip our women with the necessary tools and resources they need to build successful businesses and to contribute to the prosperity of our great nation.”

‎She therefore urged the beneficiaries of the empowerment to use the resources judiciously to grow their businesses.

‎“Let these items serve as a foundation for creating a better life for yourselves and your families. I hope and pray that what you received today will prosper in your hands”, Mrs. Tinubu said.

‎In her remark, the Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on SDG, ‎Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, said that the empowerment programme marked another bold effort to empowered women across 36 states of the federation including FCT.

‎She said that the empowerment was a milestone to drive meaningful economic impact across Nigeria.

‎Princess Adefilure thanked the first lady for improving life of Nigerian women, adding that the Renewed Hope Initiative(RHI) has been a beacon of hope to Nigerian women, giving them potentials and creating enabling environment for women to thrive.

‎The S.A to Mr. President said that one of the aim of the empowerment programme was to build sustainable livelihood for Nigeria women, which aligned with SDG goal, urging beneficiaries of the empowerment initiative to, therefore, use it as a stepping stone towards their financial sustainability.

‎She, moreover, reaffirmed committeemen of President Tinubu towards realization of the SDG goal.

‎Equally speaking at the event, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, described the empowerment programme as a clear demonstration of Mrs. Tinubu’s efforts towards upliftment of women and their reliance across Nigeria.

‎She commended Tinubu’ wife’s vision and commitment towards ensuring that the Nigerian women were not left out in nation building, urging the beneficiaries not to sell the empowerment materials, but to take the full advantage of it.
