FIC Report (Lagos State) – As of March 25, 2025, the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway continues to make steady progress, with the first phase nearing completion. This phase, a 47.47-kilometer stretch starting from Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island, Lagos, began in March 2024 and is set to be completed by May 29, 2025.

In a major milestone, 30 kilometers of this section are expected to be inaugurated by May 2025, significantly improving connectivity between Victoria Island and the Lekki-Ajah corridor. This development is anticipated to reduce travel time, ease congestion, and boost economic activities in the area.

To facilitate smooth construction, the government has already disbursed over N15 billion in compensation to property owners affected by the project. This step aims to address concerns and ensure that communities along the highway corridor are accommodated.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to expand the project further, with construction on additional sections in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states expected to commence in the first week of March 2025. The highway, once completed, will span 700 kilometers, linking nine coastal states and strengthening trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway remains a landmark infrastructure project poised to transform Nigeria’s transportation network and economic landscape. With construction progressing steadily, the vision of a more interconnected and accessible coastal region is gradually becoming a reality.
