FIC Report (Lagos State) – Nigeria – July 29th, 2025: The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), will host the 7th National Council on AIDS at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island from August 5 to 7, 2025.

The event is expected to bring together key stakeholders from government, civil society, and development partners to discuss sustainable strategies for HIV prevention, care, and control in Nigeria. According to Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, CEO of LSACA, “The 7th National Council on AIDS presents a unique opportunity for Lagos and the entire country to recalibrate our strategies, foster stronger partnerships, and adopt more sustainable, people-centred approaches to ending the HIV epidemic.”

The council which is focused on advancing Nigeria’s HIV response sustainability agenda is faced with evolving global aid policies and dwindling donor support. Dr. Animashaun emphasized the need for stakeholders to proactively respond to changing global health priorities while maintaining momentum in the national HIV response.

The event will provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange best practices, present research findings, and align efforts towards effective management and control of HIV and AIDS in Nigeria. Dr. Animashaun commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to the successful organization of the event and his exceptional visionary leadership.

“The Governor’s leadership has been instrumental in mobilizing resources and support for health initiatives, which are crucial in addressing the HIV epidemic,” Dr. Animashaun said. “Everyone has a role to play in creating a healthier and more equitable society,” she added, calling on all Nigerians to join in the management and control of HIV in the state.

The 7th National Council on AIDS sets the stage for a renewed commitment to eradicating HIV and AIDS and improving the lives of those infected and affected across the nation.
