Lagos State Contingent Heads To Zonal Eliminations For 2025 National Youth Games

FIC Report (Lagos State) – The Lagos State Contingent, comprising 216 athletes and 30 technical officials, departed for Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday, to participate in the 2025 Zonal Eliminations Ball Games. This event is part of the preparations for the 2025 National Youth Games scheduled to take place in Asaba, Delta State, from August 26 to September 6, 2025.

The contingent will compete in several sports including Abula, basketball, Baseball/Softball, cricket, football, handball, hockey, rugby, volleyball, and beach volleyball against other states in the Southwest region, namely Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, and Ondo.

And, on day one of the zonal elimination of the event on Friday, Lagos State demonstrated resilience across various games in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, “…it has been a great outing for Lagos State. This is just the first day, and with what we have seen across various games, we remain optimistic and confident that we will emerge victorious overall.”

Lagos State has a history of remarkable performances at zonal ball games and boasts of talented athletes across the disciplines. The state has created an enabling environment for athletes to hone their skills through structured training camps.

The 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, will feature over 30 sports disciplines with thousands of young athletes from across Nigeria expected to participate.
