LAGOS (FIC Lagos) The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA),  to accelerate the process of giving approval to the State’s request, to build two seaports in Lekki and Badagry.

He made this call while receiving Members of the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Ports De-congestion, led by Hon. Yusuf Baba Yakub, recently, in his office.

The Governor said the development was as a result of the present Port’s state of overflowing vehicles parked on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and de-congesting the road for commuters to get to their business areas along that axis.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, revealed that the State had already deployed resources and manpower for the construction of the seaports which were being initiated to complement the capacity of the existing ports in Apapa and Tin-can Island.

He continued that the setting up of a Joint Task Force by the State and the Federal Government to tackle the gridlock along the routes leading to the ports, was a step to prepare the ground for the construction of the facilities.

While speaking, Hon. Yakub said that the Ad-Hoc Committee was set up to investigate the cause of the congestion of the seaports, with the task to give recommendation towards solving the existing challenges for non-oil business to strive.
