LAGOS (FIC Lagos) – In a communiqué delivered during a meeting with Private Sector Partners and Joint Venture Investors at Alausa, Ikeja recently, the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Mr Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, issued a stern warning to Private Partners that all housing project deliverables must be accomplished within the specified timeline or risk their contractual agreements revoked.
He frowned at the state of affairs in Lagos State, where uncompleted building schemes are being littered everywhere, thereby, delaying the actualization of government’s plans for the state; saying housing deficit is now a matter of urgency and cannot wait till eternity to be resolved.
He reiterates, “We are committed to delivering our mandate in ensuring that more Lagosians gain access to homeownership irrespective of their ethnicity or political dispensation within the next 24 months, the completion of all ongoing housing schemes is a major strategy which the state intends to deploy in meeting its target”.
Although the investors in attendance highlighted their major challenges of securing loans from funding partners and conflicts from host communities, the Commissioner encouraged them to prove their capabilities and justify the confidence imposed on them by finding a way around these issues.
He further gave assurance of government’s willingness to intervene to help resolve some of these issues, saying investors are expected to engage in self audit before coming forward to undertake such critical state responsibilities.
