FIC Report (Lagos State) – The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal constituency has made an appeal, to security agencies, to reduce the multiple checkpoints on the Lagos-Badagry expressway.
Rep. Sesi Whingan, made the appeal during an oversight visit of the house committee on customs and Excise to Seme Command in Badagry.
According to him, the persistent and excessive checkpoints mounted along the expressway and harassment faced by motorist and tourist is sabotaging efforts to grow the tourism sector in the historic coastal town.
Furthermore, he criticised the overbearing presence of security agencies, condemning the seizure of food items from local markets, describing it as counter-productive in a time of nationwide economic distress.
Responding, the controller Seme Area Command, Dr. Benedict Oramalugo, acknowledged the grievances raised and assured that, the command has been working to reduce multiple checkpoints.
He urged the Committee to also call the attention of other sister security agencies to the matter.
