The Hon. Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Oil) Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri Ph.d, Hon. Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas) Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo Ph.d, the Permanent Secretary MPR. Dr. Emeka Vitalis Obi mni, the Directors and entire staff of Ministry of Petroleum Resources deeply regret to announce the passing of Professor Jibril Muhammad Aminu, former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (1989–1992), who died on Thursday, 5th June, 2025, at the age of 85.
Professor Aminu was a distinguished statesman, scholar, diplomat, legislator, and patriot. His tenure as Minister was marked by visionary leadership and transformative reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, laying a solid foundation for the country’s energy policies.
Prof. Aminu’s tenure as the Minister of Petroleum to a very large extent played a significant role in the creation of the Ministry for Solid Minerals Development.
He also held key international positions, including President of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (1991) and President of the OPEC Conference (1991–1992), further advancing Nigeria’s influence on the global energy stage.
Beyond his ministerial achievements, Professor Aminu’s lifelong commitment to public service as an academic, ambassador, senator, and elder statesman leaves an indelible mark on our nation’s history.
His death marks the end of an era of integrity, excellence, and dedication to national development.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the government and people of Adamawa State, and all Nigerians mourning this irreparable loss.
We pray that Almighty God grants his family and the nation the strength to bear this great loss, and may his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. His legacy of service, intellect, and patriotism will continue to inspire generations.
