Addressing the challenges of increasing Adults illiteracy and increase literacy skills in the Country ,the Federal Government is set to construct 13 critical Infrastructure projects for the Kano Centre of the National Mass Literacy Centre.
The Minister of State for Education Hon Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu disclosed this recently at the Stakeholders Engagement on the Proposed Development of 13 New Infrastructure for the Kano National Mass Literacy Centre using Public Private Partnership (PPP) held in Abuja.
The Minister who lamented about the high level Adult illiteracy, and the Country’s significant challenges in providing quality Education to it teeming population , expressed confidence that the Kano Centre of National Mass Literacy will play a crucial role in addressing these challenges by providing literacy Education in Adults across the Country.
The Minister also stated that for the Centre to effectively fulfill its mandate and reach out to more people, it is important to have the necessary infrastructure and resources in place, hence there is need for partnership to actualize the proposed development of 13 Critical Infrastructure through land swap PPP.
Sununu assured that, through this innovative approach, the Ministry will be able to leverage the expertise, resources and capabilities of the private sector to create modern and functional learning facilities for the Centre as this will not only enhance the quality of Education and training provided but also ensure sustainability and long term success for the Centre.
The Minister of State also revealed that the partnership demonstrates the President Tinubu’s administration commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship, providing a platform for the private sector to contribute to nation- building.
Speaking at the event the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack OON mni in her keynote address stated that the PPP exemplifies the power of Partnership in addressing societal needs and advancing collective progress.
She also noted that, there is need for multifaceted funding approached to effectively address the evolving changes in Education sector.
Mrs Walson-Jack disclosed that the National Mass Literacy Centre was established in the 80s but due to absence of basic infrastructures and facilities occasion by paucity of funds the Centre has not been able to operate at optimum capacity but with this innovative, the desire result is assured.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non – Formal Education (NMEC) Prof. Simon Ibor while appreciating all Education management team for their uncommon commitment, urged all Stakeholders to remain instrumental in shaping this laudable initiative to ensure a successful implementation of the projects.
Prof Ibor assured that with the collective efforts and sustained collaborations, there will be significant impact on the lives of the Youths and Adults who must be empowered to contribute their quota to National Development.
