
On September 3, 2025, Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) in his continues campaign moves to further strengthen the mining sector, paid a courtesy visit to the Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ACE 1, Michael Wetkas, fwc to further strengthen collaboration between the two organizations.
The visit aimed to foster a robust partnership between the MCO and EFCC, leveraging their respective expertise to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in the mining sector. In furtherance to their discussion, the MCO and EFCC talked of ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as intelligence sharing, and capacity building.
Engr. Nkom emphasized the importance of collaboration in combating economic and financial crimes in the mining sector, ensuring a secure and compliant operating environment for stakeholders.
The Zonal Director of the EFCC, ACE1, Michael Wetkas, fwc expressed his commitment to working closely with the MCO to achieve their shared goals. He went on to say in appreciation for the visit that , “for the DG, MCO to come to EFCC for further collaboration and to discuss openly, that MCO shows and encourages transparency and accountability in the running of the office”.
The visit aligns with the MCO’s efforts to enhance its operations and services, building on its successes in digitizing mineral title administration and improving revenue generation. By collaborating with the EFCC, the MCO seeks to further promote transparency and accountability in the mining sector.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is a Nigerian law enforcement agency responsible for investigating and prosecuting economic and financial crimes. The commission plays a critical role in promoting transparency and accountability in the Nigerian economy.
Mr. Wetkas, the zonal director, EFCC said the solid minerals ministry is one of the ministries that government suppose to put much importance in, because of the massive minerals deposit in the country. He emphasized that EFCC is ready to collaborate and closely work together with MCO to create sanity in the system.
During the discussion section, the two leaders granted immunity to those present to criticize or ask any question that they need clarification. Comments were made and Critical questions were asked to the MCO Director General which he answered satisfactorily and clarifications were made too.
The zonal Director, EFCC, concretize the collaboration by gift of publications to the Director General of MCO. In ‘retaliation’ the DG, Mining Cadastre office, presented plaque and polo engraved with “Wealth away from oil” which the zonal Director EFCC wore in appreciation without wasting time.
The management staff of the two organisations were happy for the courtesy visit which has been long expected.
In a lighter mood, the MCO Team went to EFCC, “saw , conquered , and came out free”.
